Wildlife in front of me Oh my!

Ok I just had a crazy experience. I just had a full grown  Coyote run by me not 20 feet! from me. In the middle of the city on a paved street this Coyote ran right in front of me. It was about three in the afternoon and thank goodness Maulie or Morris weren’t by me. I lived in Crest for over 20 years and that’s a community near wildlife. This totally surprised me.  This is better then when a Moose chased me in Wyoming. (I am serious I got chased by a bull moose in the big Horn mountains) Cheri

yikes! I hat the coyotes we have a few in the neighborhood I rarely let my cat out.
We have moose come through the yard but I would hate to be chased by one. You run fast they are a fast animal.

Hi, the reason why the coyote in front of me is a big deal was it just was galloping by me and so Close and bold . As for the Moose I had a good start. It was 30 years ago. We were in the big Horn Mountains and saw a moose laying down. We approuched it and the race was on to the trucks. My girlfriend and I ran like the dickens laughing the whole time. Our husbands were smarter they were in the trucks.

That is scary. We had a terrible coyote problem last year. They were everywhere, around schools etc. Eventually the local gov't put a bounty on them to try and get the population down.

Hi kim,I love wildlife but La Mesa is in the city and the idea it is so bold worries me.I know animals live in cities and have to survive but the broad daylight is weird! When we finish moving back to Crest this month I will not be surprised to hear coyotes at night.Living on a dirt road and a nature park in front of us that's to be expected .My neighbor kept giving me updates on this coyote but now that i saw how big and healthy he is he's scary. The neighbors cats have been killed on this block by this coyote.I just thought as long as I only let Morris out in the broad daylight he was O.K. but now he is in the house til were back in Crest in his fenced yard.
This Coyote is way to use to people. Most wild animals are afraid of people. I had just pulled up in my Suv and stepped out in my driveway and he went by me. If maulie had been next to me he could easily grabbed her. Living in Crest I take precautions with small animals but it is bothering me that this coyote is sticking around and eating people pets in the middle of the day.I should have jumped back in my car but I was taken by surprise.

Now that is quite an experience to start a new year. I'd be worried for kids playing outside and for myself too. We've had a fox that came right in the driveway and I chased it. One of the neighbour lost all his hens because the fox got at them one by one. My son saw a coyote by the horse's barn last fall. They sure are bold. JB

Hi Julia, I thought about kids too. In Crest I had a couple small chickens disappear but it could have been a hawk or something. I love seeing animals.I just don't think that is normal behavior in a coyote.Boy a Fox in the driveway, I can just see you chasing it! Cheri

Many more of the wildlife that we once thought avoided the urban centers have found their way to live amongst us.
He was probably as startled by you as you were of him.
When they run in packs they seem to present more danger.
We have them here and in the evening you can hear them howling in the distance...

Hi Susan, It is sad that wildlife have no where to go in the city but this Coyote is not scared he is a bold one.My last day in La Mesa is this Saturday and then I'll be back in Crest with husband
and my animals. My neighbor in La mesa called the city and apparently coyotes are protected in California. He is the neighbor that got his cat eaten.Morris is adjusting to staying indoors for now and Maulie is wondering whats with the boxes. Cheri
